Jasmine Garland & Hang Dong night market

Women, covered from head to toe weave in and out of the traffic at most lights selling jasmine flower garlands. They are used as greetings for friends, to take to the temple and to hang in your car for good luck (to avoid accidents) and also as a deodorizer.  These ladies cover their faces, the reasons are twofold - first to screen what little they can of the exhaust fumes and secondly because they don't want to get a tan.  There are all kinds off TV ads and billboards advertising pale/white skin, if you use "SNAIL WHITE" your skin will be brighter and you will be more attractive! If their skin is lighter then it means they are not working outside all day and are from a higher social standing.

Went to the post office this morning and they had these creepy moving monk pictures - thank goodness the monks eyes were closed - reminded me of a Jesus clock an ESL student  gave me for Christmas. Jesus's eyes followed you when you walked by - I gave it to my brother, he gave it to Gary and who knows where it ended up.

We went to a night market on the outskirts of Hang Dong for dinner and to check out the stalls.

It is still 35 degrees (6:30 pm) and this person has on a winter coat with fur around the hood ......she whizzed by us in a blur!

Decisions decisions !

Squid on a stick!

Along the lines of life is short eat dessert first we opted for one coconut ice and one chocolate ice, two toppings - hearts of palm and young coconut - sounds good eh -- not so much, we both had a few spoonfuls and threw them away!

Looks are deceiving! He does not lookThai, but is!

Making & frying the pork balls - tried them for starters - just OK, needed sauce.

Noodles, with a huge smile!

Needed a coconut smoothie to cleanse

 the pallet!

Four varieties of pad thai, the noodle vendors were all smiles tonight!

Steamed bean curd desserts, didn't try them but they look pretty in that bamboo steamer.

Pretty serious business.

Not sure if something was lost in the translation, the punctuation is missing or if you should be having a few drinks before reading it.
Pups of the day - ahhh...

Hang Dong is inundated with farangs living in gated communities .  The market had one stall of tourist stuff and the rest was all everyday Thai living - lots of plastic, those little brooms that break your back if you are over 4 feet tall, even had brownies & mixed green salads. Different than the CM night market where almost every stall is a repeat of the same ole, same ole.
